During a sit-down interview with Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R) in his Washington, D.C. office, the senior congressman from Miami said that four amendments he sponsored, that he feels would have ended the gov’t shut down by getting bipartisan support and the president’s signature, were “shutdown” by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party leadership in the House.

Because House and Senate Democratic leadership has taken on the task of solely taking on the White House over the government shutdown, Diaz-Balart said that his relationships with his south Florida Democratic colleagues has not been tainted by the political posturing over border security because its

Diaz-Balart also mentioned that both Schumer and Pelosi supported funding the border when they openly stated the support for the controversial 2013 Senate Gang of 8 immigration reform bill.

“5.7 billion is a lot less than the president had requested the last time, it’s a lot less than what Nancy Pelosi and Mr. Schumer had supported publicly… Schumer voted for it, Pelosi supported it.”

Diaz-Balart also wants to “solve the issue for the dreamers and temporary protective status (TPS).

“Clean dreamers, TPS and border security, that I tell you Javier, will get strong bipartisan support."
