New Broward County Supervisor of Elections is Sworn in

Florida’s 2018 midterm elections were surrounded in controversy largely due to Brenda Snipes’ involvement. Now, the new Broward County supervisor of elections, Peter Antonacci, has been formally sworn in, and he’s assuring that he’s going to get to the bottom of Broward County’s ballot-counting problems.

In a downtown Fort Lauderdale courthouse ceremony, Chief Judge Jack Tutor swore in Antonacci, who was chosen by Governor Rick Scott to replace Snipes after she was suspended by the sunshine state Governor last Friday.

On the day of being sworn in, Antonacci also received an endorsement from former Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth, a Democrat, who said that he “can’t think of a better person to do this job than Pete Antonacci. He’s been asked by a number of governors to do the most difficult jobs, and it happened again.”

Antonnaci commented that “within the next few weeks I’ll have a consumable, small report that will speak to what went wrong and, hopefully, what we can do to make it right.”

He also added that “I’m about to embark on a great mission and that great mission is to see to it that every eligible voter is registered to vote and that every vote counts. I’m pleased to report that I’ve interviewed the supervisor’s staff and we have some very good, honorable public officials that are ready to conduct elections.”

Finally, Antonacci noted that “I’m care-taking and I’m care-taking until the people of Broward County speak in their own voice to elect the person they want to run this office in 2020.”

After the election recounts were finished, Snipes turned in a resignation letter but then rescinded the resignation, which led to her being suspended by the Governor. She has voiced that she will challenge Governor Scott’s suspension, and she will go through a senate process to determine her future.
