Gov. Scott to finish out his full term, holds off senate

The U.S. Senate class of 2019 will be sworn in on January 3, but one senator-elect will not be around for swearing in festivities.

In keeping with his promise to Floridians, Gov. Rick Scott will serve every day of his final term as governor and will not be sworn into the Senate until January 8, leaving the senate seat vacant for 5 days.

"Gov. Scott will remain governor until January 8th, 2019," said John Tupps, a spokesman for Scott. "U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has agreed to hold the ceremony for Governor Scott's swearing-in as U.S. senator from Florida that afternoon." (Tampa Bay Times)

Scott’s swearing in ceremony will be held on the same day Governor-elect Ron DeSantis is sworn into office in Florida.

Expect a lot of fanfare for DeSantis’ inauguration and a smaller, more intimate ceremony for Scott, which most likely just include family, close friends, some staff, and senate leadership.
