Even though most, if not all political pundits believe she will win re-election to the U.S. Congress, Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is still out actively campaigning as if her political life depended on it.
It does.
Wasserman, who was already endorsed by the Sun-Sentinel newspaper, was just endorsed by the Miami Herald, and she is making sure everyone knows about it.
But the problem Wasserman Schultz faces is a strong challenge by both Republican Joe Kaufman and Democrat-turned-Independent Tim Canova.
Canova is a strong candidate, Joe Kaufman is not.
Back in 2016, Canova lost his highly contentious and controversial Democratic primary race to Wasserman Schultz. After suing and winning his case against the Broward Supervisor of Elections for destroying election ballots, Canova revamped is congressional campaign and decided to run as an Independent.
Wasserman Schultz is the favorite, but if Canova can pull away the same votes he did in 2016 and win over a small portion of Independents, Canova has a great shot of winning.
But if all this happens, Kaufman, who runs for congress every year and loses by double-digits, could steal away the election if Republicans come out to vote, and if Canova and Wasserman Schultz split their base of support.
Democrats will not vote for Kaufman, so he best chance to win is for the Democratic voter base to splinter.
