President Obama Endorses Gillum and Nelson

As Hillary Clinton enters South Florida to campaign with Andrew Gillum and Michelle Obama rallies in the sunshine state to engage the youth to register to vote, President Barack Obama enters the midterm elections by endorsing Tallahassee Mayor Gillum in his bid to become Florida’s next Governor. The former President also endorsed Bill Nelson in his reelection bid against Florida Governor Rick Scott, and this comes at a time when Rick Scott has just received 59 endorsements.

In a statement released by the Gillum campaign, President Obama noted that “Andrew is a proven fighter with the courage and determination to stand up for Florida families. Andrew will fight to put the priorities of everyday people first.”

The Obama office also released a statement, reading that “The Democratic Party has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we lead with conviction, principle, and bold, new ideas. Our incredible array of candidates up and down the ticket, all across the country, make up a movement of citizens who are younger, more diverse, more female than ever before.”

In response to the endorsement, Mayor Gillum said it was “truly an honor” to be endorsement by President Obama, and Gillum added that Obama “exemplifies true patriotism and characterizes the American values that both the country and Florida are striving to recapture.”
