Politicians survey Hurricane Michael damage, press recovery efforts

Cleanup throughout Florida’s panhandle will continue for months on end after Category 4 Hurricane Michael carved a path of utter destruction and death.

The scene along the coast line is that of complete devastation, an apocalyptic setting, as some would describe it.

The casualty totals:

18 dead

46 missing

$8 billion in property loss.

With the midterm elections, less than a month away, scores of politicians from both sides of the political aisle have been popping up throughout the affected area.

There is no resting in politics, and candidates can’t let a crisis go to waste.

President Trump, who has already signed off on an aggressive recovery plan, is scheduled to survey the damage along the panhandle, and will most likely visit Mexico Beach, the beach town that was absolutely leveled by the storm.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, Senator Bill Nelson, and members of Congress like Al Lawson (D) have all been on the ground and have provided assistance and emotional support.

Lawson, whose congressional district was hit by the storm,  stood alongside Scott in Greta, Florida, hosting a community meeting with state and federal officials to give residents updates on recovery efforts.

“It's going to take all of us, on every level, to ensure families have the resources they need to rebuild our communities.”- Rep. Al Lawson
