After Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford testified and gave their accounts about the accusations brought against Judge Kavanaugh, Senator Bill Nelson took to twitter today to voice that he will be voting against Kavanaugh. This comes after a long wait of keeping his thoughts to himself and saying that he would weigh his options.
After announcing his vote, Governor Rick Scott, his opponent in the Senate race, attacked Senator Nelson on twitter, commenting that “This is not news. This was always the case. You were always going to do exactly what your party leaders told you to do. You decided no before you even knew who the nominee was. Your vote does not even belong to you – it belongs to (Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer).”
Judge Kavanaugh was nominated to replace Judge Anthony Kennedy, a centrist Judge that was often the deciding factor on decisions. Democrats have emphasized how important this seat is for the future, and they have also been critical of Republicans, saying that they are quick to disregard Ford's testimony to fill the vacant seat.
In response to the hearings, Governor Scott said that he believed both Ford and Kavanaugh, but he would still vote to confirm Kavanaugh if he was in the Senate.
