During a press conference to address the current environmental issues that are affecting the Everglades, Republican gubernatorial nominee Ron DeSantis was asked to discuss global warming.
DeSantis told reporters that “sea rise may be because of human activity or the changing climate,” adding that he didn’t know for sure.
“I see the sea rising. I see the increased flooding in south Florida,” said DeSantis before saying that he thinks “human activity contributes to our environment.”
When pressed to answered if he believed in global warming, DeSantis pushed back.
“I’m not in the pews of the church of the global warming Leftists, I’m a Republican. I’m a Conservative. I’m a Teddy Roosevelt conservationist.”
Reporters continued pressing DeSantis to opine on whether he thought that humans are contributing to heating of “the globe,” prompting DeSantis to state, “that very well maybe happening. I’m not ruling that out.”
DeSantis also said that he was “open to pursue” buying land south of Lake Okeechobee to help with the Everglades clean-up effort.
