Last month, NextGen America, a progressive group headed by Tom Steyer, announced that they were backing Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s bid to become the next Governor of Florida.
NextGen America is a progressive group that focuses on engaging in voter outreach and mobilizing millennials to vote, and the group also focuses on electing Democrats to office.
This week, NextGen announced that they’re investing more money into his campaign by assisting with a six-figure digital ad buy that will circulate two new 30-second advertisements titled Our Turn and Lived It on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook among other online sites. The advertisement Lived It focuses on Gillum's upbringing and time as a lawmaker. The advertisement Our Turn focuses on presenting Gillum as a candidate of the people and highlighting several policy changes he will seek as Florida's Governor.
Commenting in a release, Steyer explains that “We know that young voters are online, and a strong and smart digital campaign will be key to pushing Andrew Gillum across the finish line on August 28th.”
Andrew Gillum has also received the financial and vocal support of George Soros, a controversial political figure that made headlines during the 2016 Presidential election.
