Rubio Praises Election Security Consultants

Share

After the results of the 2016 Presidential election, news broke of suspected Russian involvement in trying to sway the election in Donald Trump's favor. As a result, nationwide dialogue erupted about ways to ensure that future elections are not tampered by Russia or any other country.

In response, Florida Governor Rick Scott is moving to hire five employees under contract to serve as security consultants, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio is praising the idea. However, the sunshine state Senator warns that state election officials "are underestimating the threat we face from Putin interference."

Florida Governor Scott assured that "We must be proactive in our efforts to preserve the security and integrity of our elections." He also noted that asking Florida's Department of State to invest in a team for cybersecurity was a move "that will serve as a resource to all of our election officials."

Both Senator Rubio and Florida Governor Scott have spoken out against the supposed involvement of Russian in the past presidential election, and a report released a few months ago suggested that Russia was in fact trying to aid Senator Bernie Sanders in his bid for the presidential office. However, Senator Sanders and his team have not commented on the report.
