The Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner was held Friday night at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel, and and both Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Congressman Ron DeSantis, currently facing off against each other to replace Florida Governor Rick Scott, took the stage to share their different approaches on their views for taking on the job.
DeSantis spoke more about national issues and Putnam covered issues that pertained to Florida. It's reported that the crowd was supportive, but Putnam drew more applause.
This was a surprise to some like former Broward Republican vice chairman Ken Haiko who detailed that he "was leaning DeSantis. I probably still am, but I was very impressed with Putnam’s speech.”
In addition, both politicians took on the current issue taking social media by storm - is it Laurel or Yanni?
Commissioner Putnam commented that he "heard Yanny. What does that make me? Is there some kind of a psycho analysis of that?” he asked. “One of my daughters heard [Laurel] but my wife and I both heard the same, so I guess were compatible after 19 ½ years."
In contrast, Congressman DeSantis explained that "I listened to it the first time, and I was like, it’s Yanny. Then I listened to it again, and it’s always been Laurel every time. It’s just really strange. So I think I’m in the Laurel camp."
