The latest public shooting at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California is fueling the narrative of some gun rights advocates that guns don’t kill people, rather people kill people. The shooting is also making the case for the recent movement to ban guns following the Parkland school shooting.
Nasim Aghdam, 39, from San Diego, California shot three people before turning the gun on herself at the social media giant’s headquarters. According to her father, Aghdam hated YouTube because she felt the company was not paying her enough for the videos she was posting the platform.
According to Fox News, the father said that he had warned police that his daughter may be on her way to the YouTube headquarters.
Ismail Aghdam said he reported his daughter missing on Monday after she did not answer her phone for two days. He said the family received a call from Mountain View police around 2 a.m. Tuesday saying they found Nasim sleeping in a car.
He said he warned them she might be headed to YouTube because she "hated" the company.
Mountain View Police spokeswoman Katie Nelson confirmed officers located a woman by the same name asleep in a vehicle asleep in a Mountain View parking lot Tuesday morning.
Florida Congresswoman Val Demings (D) echoed the calls to “address gun violence” across the country.
Demings colleague in the House of Representatives, Rep. Ted Deutch (D) held a “gun safety” town hall meeting in his congressional district the day of the YouTube shooting.
Deutch’s town hall was put together on the heels of the #marchforourlives event the previous Saturday to bring awareness to gun violence and to show solidarity with the victims of the senseless shooting that was committed by 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz.
The recent Parkland school shooting that left 17 students and teachers dead occurred in Deutch’s district.
