State Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Naples, has drawn a Democratic challenger as he seeks a second term in the Florida House. Naples Democrat Jennifer Denise Boddicker opened a campaign account this week to try to unseat Donalds in House District 80, which includes Hendry County and part of Collier County, according to the state Division of Elections website. Unaffiliated candidate Dustin Alexander Lapolla also opened an account for the race last month.
Donalds had raised $89,668 for the race as of Jan. 31, finance records show. Also in Southwest Florida, North Port Republican Nicholas Trolli opened an account Wednesday to run in Sarasota County’s House District 74, according to the Division of Elections. The seat is currently held by Rep. Julio Gonzalez, a Venice Republican who could run for a congressional seat that opened when U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., announced he would not seek another term
