Gov Scott orders 8 troopers to Stoneman Douglas HS, BSO Sheriff Israel welcomes the extra help

After one of his deputies was caught sleeping while on detail at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Sheriff Scott Israel took Gov Rick Scott up on his offer to post Highway Patrol officers at the school where 17 people were killed in a mass shooting back in February.

Things got worse for Israel, as three students were arrested for bringing weapons to the school on the very same day his deputy was caught taking the siesta.

What’s even worse than that is the brother of the shooter, 18-year old Zachary Cruz, “was arrested Monday at the school for trespassing, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office, who on Tuesday reported they had arrested a 10th-grade Stoneman Douglas student on a misdemeanor charge for making a threat on social media,” reported the POLITICO.

Now Gov Scott has order 8 troopers to help guard school after Israel “welcomed” the offer. Here is what Israel posted on his personal Facebook page about his conversation with Gov Scott.

"Tonight, I had a productive conversation with Governor Rick Scott about how we can continue to work together to keep Florida safe. The Governor offered to provide the Broward Sheriff’s Office with additional resources from the Florida Highway Patrol to ensure that all entrances and exits at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are secure to ensure the safety of the students, teachers and employees. I welcome the Governor’s offer and I thank him for his continued support and partnership. The safety of the people of Broward County is my number one priority, and through a collaborative, all-hands-on-deck approach, we are working to ensure that nothing like the February 14th tragedy happens again."

There have been calls made for an investigation into Israel’s sheriff’s office after it was learned that Nikolas Cruz was on the BSO’s radar, and should have been arrested on at least two occasions.

Many believe that if Cruz was arrested he would not have been able to purchase the weapons he had in possession, including the rifle he used to kill those 17 students and teachers.
