DeSantis believes Cuba should be designated State Sponsors of Terrorism

When President Obama stated that he would seek to “normalize” relations with the Communist Castro regime in Cuba, many Republican and Democratic detractors railed at the president for rewarding the Communist regime without receiving any concessions.

During a field meeting sponsored by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R), who sits on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, four expert panelists along with Republican Senator Marco Rubio, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Carlos Curbelo, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Ted Yoho, all expressed their concerns about President Obama’s U.S.-Cuba policy.

When asked if Cuba, who supports the brutal dictatorship of Nicholas Maduro in Venezuela, needed to be designated as a State Sponsors of Terrorism, Rep. DeSantis stated, “absolutely” due to the fact the regime is “still harboring terrorists.”

d if not solely responsible for the attack themselves.

Obama lifted the State sponsor of Terrorism designation from the island nation in 2015, leaving the Cuban exile community wondering if their decades-long struggle against Castro’s human rights violations and terrorism was made in vain.

The State Department’s yearly assessment last July found that the Cuban government did not meet the criteria needed to land themselves on the dreaded list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
