It appears as if “the Doctor is in” when it comes to supporting Republican congressional candidate Amanda Makki’s candidacy against Democrat Rep. Charlie Crist.

Of the 19 or so medical doctors elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Texas Rep. Michael Burgess and Florida Rep. Neal Dunn have both come out to openly endorse Makki’s bid to unseat “ineffective and extreme liberal” Rep. Crist.

Rep. Dunn was the first to endorse Makki, and Rep. Burgess followed shortly after, saying that Makki is “just the conservative that the people of Florida need representing them in congress.”

“You don’t have to be from Florida to know that people are unhappy with House Democratic Leadership and looking for a change,” said Congressman Burgess. “Amanda Makki is a fighter, an experienced healthcare policy expert and advocate, and she’s just the conservative that the people of Florida need representing them in Congress. As a physician, I look forward to working with her to reduce the cost of prescription drugs and to find sensible, conservative solutions to our country’s healthcare crisis.”

“Healthcare is one of my top priorities. On Day One, I will join forces with the loudest voices in Congress fighting to repeal and replace Obamacare and lower healthcare costs for seniors. It cannot be any more crucial, and I am honored to have Dr. Burgess’ support,” said Makki.

Rep. Crist has already acknowledged that he could have a tough reelection road against him, but as always, Crist is positive about his chances.

“I am grateful for everyone who has chipped in so far to help our campaign prepare for the millions being readied to spend against us by the NRCC, special interest groups, and well-funded challengers that want to defeat us and take back the House.”- Charlie Crist

Crist told The Floridian a few weeks ago that he wasn’t looking at any particular opponent, and that it was “up to Republicans” to pick their nominee, adding that once they did, he would “look forward to a spirited race.

Spirited it will be. Crist has already amassed $2.5 million for he reelection bid.

The NRCC also told The Floridian that they were prepared to lay on the political pressure against Trump. Republicans have been focused on winning back this seat as well as Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s South Florida congressional seat. Eric Trump recently said that the presidential campaign would be looking to hold members like Reps. Mucarsel-Powell and Crist “accountable” in this election cycle.
